We are currently working on the visual profile for photographer MonaMonaMona. Mona is a playful, edgy and colourful photographer and one of the few in Norway with expertice in 3D-photography. Here are som sketches for the design that she didn’t choose. Stay tuned to see how her real profile turns out!

All You Need is Snow

These characters were created for a pitch to make mascots for the World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo.

We mixed elements from the norwegian heritage with the childish joy of playing in snow, as well as adding a hint of kawaii. We started with the basic shape of the snow ball, and explored how it could produce endless combinations of characters. Focusing on an eco-friendly approach, we wanted the mascots to be sustainable and of good quality materials, like wool and wood. In keeping with the playful nature of snow, we turned off our computers and concentrated on making dummies by hand. This resulted in no digital sketches, only a bunch of small snowmen characters. When our proposal got rejected, they ended up in a shoe box for a year, but the norwegian winter inspired us to set them free for you to see.

The Green Fairy

Happy New Year! Still hung over after the holidays? If you’re feeling blue, go for green! In today’s perfume review in D2 Magazine, Bjørn explains why smelling absinthe a.k.a. “The Green Fairy”, is the choice if you want to embrace gloominess and get miserable in style.

Some unhappy leaves that didn’t make it for todays article on autumn perfumes in D2 Magazine. Brooklyn based CB I Hate Perfume’s, has hit the comfort zone with Burning Leaves and M3 November. Go check them out, and cuddle up in front of the fireplace.

Below, the final illustration. CB’s perfume M3 November pays homage to “Moominland Midwinter” written by Tove Jansson. It therefore felt appropriate to quote her ”Autumn Song” with the following line: “I’m looking for something we once had and maybe lost.”

The Dark Horse

As you might have noticed, we have redesigned our website as well as our identity. The old horse is gone to where the grass is always green, and a new horse has taken its place. We feel that this horse truly reflects our spirit – it’s stronger, clearer and even more dedicated. We like the connotations to the chess knight – with its mobility it’s a versatile and strong piece. And of course; we do like the ambience of the dark horse! The little flip book animation is put together by our fab French intern Charlotte Lamy.

Type Couture

Typographic dress for the launch of new women’s magazine Alt for damene. The idea from the creative team at Kitchen was “stories that stay with you after you have finished reading”.

Backstage

First rough sketches off the different styles were drawn in the studio at the end of the shoot.

Rune Spaans and his team commenced to do the 3D-work. Firstly, the body had to be rebuilt in 3D to get the stance right. The dress was then modeled onto the frame. To the left: The flat sketch. To the right: The draped 3D-model.

When the shape was ready, the UV-map was passed over to us so that we could start working with the text layout.

The typography was meticulously filled in.

It required a lot of testing and “alternative kerning” to get the typography exactly in the right spot. With the UV map ready, Rune could now make a render of the final dress. Here are the results.

The ads were published in a nationwide campaign that ran in magazines, newspapers and on boards .

The campaign was commissioned by the creative team Ole Henrik Stubberud, Heidi Mittun and Elin Dorum Bengtsson at Kitchen.

The Hills Are Alive!

For our forthcoming exhibition, we performed some serious field studies of trolls in the their natural habitat, in an attempt to get a better understanding of their behaviour and ecology. We had a feeling we were on to something, but our findings surpassed our wildest expectations. As these extraordinary snapshots clearly show: Trolls do NOT explode or turn into stone when exposed to sun light. We could not believe our luck when a massive troll came striding across the valley at 11:40 in the morning, oblivious to, and apparently unharmed by the sun in his back! This is the final proof that everything you have heard about trolls and UV-radiation is myth and nothing but fairy tales. Our PhotoRemixes of trolls can be seen at Fotografiens Hus from 4th – 28th of November.
