All You Need is Snow

These characters were created for a pitch to make mascots for the World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo.
We mixed elements from the norwegian heritage with the childish joy of playing in snow, as well as adding a hint of kawaii. We started with the basic shape of the snow ball, and explored how it could produce endless combinations of characters. Focusing on an eco-friendly approach, we wanted the mascots to be sustainable and of good quality materials, like wool and wood. In keeping with the playful nature of snow, we turned off our computers and concentrated on making dummies by hand. This resulted in no digital sketches, only a bunch of small snowmen characters. When our proposal got rejected, they ended up in a shoe box for a year, but the norwegian winter inspired us to set them free for you to see.

I scribble all kinds of thnigs in my sketchbook, because it’s generally the easiest source of paper for me to access xD Conversely, my sketchbooks used to be clean and tidy, and full of finished art (that wasn’t very good but still). Also, nowadays my sketchbook feels very personal and I don’t like letting people flick through it xD;Thank you! I very rarely draw interaction, so I’m glad it looks good! I think I might have stuffed it up a bit when I inked it though. I think, hair brushing tends to be kind of relaxing, so maybe even seeing it makes you feel more relaxed and that’s why? xD My sister has really long hair (and I used to when I was 11 or something), and she really does have to pull it over her shoulder to brush it xD Short hair is far easier to deal with.Thank you again ;w; I still think my anatomy needs a lot of work though.
